The Safe Driving Edition

Parking Lot Safety Tips
  • Entering the lot? Observe the No Left Turn sign on Illinois Avenue. When vehicles attempt to turn left into the lot on Illinois, traffic gets backed up into the Quentin Road intersection. The Palatine Police Department is monitoring this traffic sign, and violators will be ticketed.
  • Entering from Quentin Road? Similar to the checkout lines at the grocery store, find the aisle with the shortest lines. This will also allow more people to enter the lot behind you.
  • Dropping off? Pull forward past the front entrance to alleviate congestion in the aisles.
  • Picking up in the front lot? Try locating a parking spot as you wait, and only drive to the front when you receive your student’s “I’m out front” text.
  • Picking up on the street? Please attempt to do so only on the south side of the street (nearest the school) from the Auditorium lot to the bus lane in front. Pickup on the north side of the street is not only dangerous, but it may also earn you a ticket.
  • Walking? Please use designated crosswalks and make sure turning vehicles are stopped before entering the crosswalk.

Staff Spotlight

Name: Lauren O'Donnell
Position: Transition Coordinator/ Work Program Coordinator, Varsity Girls Tennis Coach and Service Over Self Sponsor

Years at Fremd: This is my 7th year at Fremd.

Life Before Fremd: Before teaching at Fremd, I graduated from Miami University of Ohio with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education as an Intervention Specialist. While at Miami of Ohio, I played on the club tennis team, volunteered with Best Buddies and served as the community service officer for my sorority.

Hobbies/Interests: I love to coach tennis and sponsor the Service Over Self club at Fremd! On the weekends, I enjoy going to the dog park with my irish setter, Rawlins, practicing yoga and riding in spin class. My favorite place to travel is Charleston, South Carolina with all of the great beaches, low-country food, shopping and history! I also enjoyed going to Kauai this summer, especially hiking the Na Pali Coast Trail.

Insider Tip for Parents: The transition after high school is an exciting time for adolescents, but it can also be a time during which many students experience difficulties. As a support system for your student it is never too early to start planning for life after high school! Fremd and District 211 offer many great transition-related resources and events; such as the upcoming District 211 College Night, college admission visits through the guidance department, career treks offered throughout the year, The Future Begins Today and Directions Fairs specific for students with special needs, and many more. Careercruising.com and Collegeboard.org are great online resources for students to research possible post-secondary education and career opportunities! For online access to these resources students can ask their counselors.
