The Library Update Edition

OLD is Almost Cured!

Last December, district work crews set out to eradicate OLD (Outdated Library Disease) on Fremd's campus. Good news! The new and improved library, free of OLD, will be open for student use on November 6!

We owe the Viking Booster Club a huge thank you for their financial support to add furniture and other aesthetic features to the space. Much of these funds were raised through their Dinner Dance Fund a Need. Check out this video to see what the library used to look like:

Name: Vasilij Acic

Position: Science Teacher (Physics, Physical Science), Assistant JV Boys Volleyball Coach

Years at Fremd:2nd year at Fremd, 4th year overall in teaching.

Life Before Fremd: I am proud to say that I grew up in Palatine, and I am incredibly excited to be able to give back to the community that helped shape who I am today! I graduated from Palatine High School, and then attended Harper College before transferring out to the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign. The last two years I was a science teacher and coach at Antioch Community High School. I taught AP Physics C and Honors Physics both years, and was the Freshman Boys and JV Girls Volleyball coach at ACHS.

Hobbies/Interests: I’m a huge Chicago sports fan, love coaching volleyball, and spending time with my friends and family. Also, as a new home owner a lot of my time is now spent making sure I can properly feed myself (I’m sorry mom if I ever took your cooking for granted!!).

Insider Tip for Parents: My biggest tip for parents is to just be involved, and encourage your kids to get involved with an extracurricular activity. There are so many learning opportunity for kids to have being in a sport and club that you just can’t get from the classroom alone.

The SAT Prep Edition

SAT Prep Update

Due to technical difficulties, our scheduled practice SAT date on Wednesday was cancelled and juniors were sent back to their classes. We will look to reschedule a practice SAT exam, but there are inherent challenges with any back-up plan we develop.

The original date was a half-day of school, which is the perfect amount of time needed to administer the exam. Our next half day is in February, which is less than two months from the April SAT administration date. The other, bigger reason we use a half day is to minimize disruptions to our regular learning environment. In determining potential make-up dates, we will need to evaluate the impact on instruction.

Please stay tuned for information about a possible make-up date.

In the meantime, I want to take this opportunity to remind you that Fremd offers SAT prep after school. Weekly. For FREE!

SAT Math
Mondays 3-5 pm

SAT English, Reading and Writing
Thursdays 3-4:30

Additionally, every student has created his/her own Khan Academy login, which provides them with access to practice exams, instant feedback, and practice plans tailored to each student’s unique needs.
